May Cakes

Tuesday, May 29, 2012
Time to share with you the cakes that I made this month.
The first one was for a dear young friend Amber who just graduated
from Hope College with her nursing degree.
I used to take care of her little guy, Eli.
And this one was for Lisa.  I get to make her cake every year because her thoughtful husband makes sure that in their household of boys, the only girl in the family is MOM and that she gets treated very special on her birthday.

Next on the line up for May was a Wedding Cake!

This was a two layer 14" and a 2 layer 12" Carrot Cake
Thankfully, my husband helped me to deliver it because it weighed
28 1/2 POUNDS
I got an email from the bride two days later that said it was a BIG hit
with everyone and she gave my name out to several people who asked.

Some Princess Cupcakes for a 7 year old charge of one of my friends

The fun little topper is a bottle of Princess Bubbles.
A total of 40 cupcakes for her fun Princess Party!
The first Graduation of the season...
Heidi is headed to Cedarville College in Ohio and has
a scholarship to sing with their traveling group.
Hence the music related decorations on this second cake.
There are more birthday's and graduations coming in June, so stay tuned
And don't forget the butterfly cake that I posted earlier HERE

For those of you who faithfully check my blog on a regular basis you have
noticed that I haven't posted for a few days - so sorry!  It has been a HUGE week
for me with baking and decorating cakes and cupcakes for two separate orders.
You will see that post in just a few days.
But in the mean time...

This is the Red Hot Stampers Sketch Challenge for this week...

When we were sitting at our grandson's little league baseball game a cute little girl was sitting in front of us and the longer I looked at her little shirt I thought it would be so cute as a card.I'm really not a stalker, but it is amazing how and where you can find your inspiration for designs

This is my take on the the challenge using the colors and designs from her cute shirt.
The colors I used are: Daffodil Delight, Marina Mist, Melon Mambo,
Basic Black, WW, and Certainly Celery
The Stamp is a retired SAB set called "So Happy For You"
So sorry, the cute butterfly brad was purchased at a local crafting store.

Summer Smooches

Thursday, May 24, 2012

Last week's Play Day was held at Sue's house where we had our garage sale.
Even Little Owen joined us for the day and pretty much slept through the whole thing.
We had several offers to buy the baby, but I think Rachel is pretty attached to him (hehe).

I came sporting my new apron made using the Summer Smooch Fabric.
My Dear, Dear, Friend and Pen Pal of over 40 years made this for me!!
She also made me 2 zippered pouches and a small one that holds my business cards.
All complete with my name embroidered on them!!

See...they match the bag that we all got at Leadership last January!!
I am loving these amazing things she made for me!!

Thanks Becky! You are a Sweetheart!!

Gifts To Me, To You

Monday, May 21, 2012
Today I will share with you two little purse shaped items
This first one was given to me from my friend Vicky.
They had these little purses (with goodies in them) at each place setting
for a women's event at their church.

This next one is one that I made for Glenda.
It is probably my favorite Go-To gift card holder and when I combined it with the new Summer Smooches Designer Paper I think it turned out very cute.
Glenda was so kind to loan me the new products that she pre-ordered to show my down line gals at the last meeting, and she allowed me to take a potential recruit to her down line meeting. She is such an amazing up-line and I appreciate her so much.

Time for the Red Hot Stampers Sketch Challenge of the week
This is the sketch we had to work with...

I totally did a flip on this one

See how I changed it up...
I used the Designer Paper called NURSERY NEST which already had the white scallop on the edge so all I had to do was add the piece of scalloped Blushing Bride

One of the corners of the 12x12 DSP had these two cute birdies so I thought I would make that into a card as well.  Your Designer Series Paper can be quite versatile.
These two cards were speedy to make.

MENU:
SS: Friendly Phrases
CS: Marina Mist, Blushing Bride, WW, Nursery Nest DSP (retiring),
Owl: Soft Suede, Blushing Bride DSP (also retiring), Basic Black
INK: Staz On Jet Black
Accessories: White Gel Pen, Dimensional

Play Day?

Thursday, May 17, 2012
This weeks Play Day is Garage Sale Day!
So instead of "playing" we will be "working"
but when you are spending the day with friends, it doesn't matter what you are doing
it is always just plain fun.

So for today I will show you a fun project we made at last weeks play day.
Actually our play day gang is growing!!  Jackie popped in and offered to do "whatever"
and Sue also came for a short time.  Baby Owen stayed for the morning, but then daddy picked him up so Rachel could play all afternoon.  This was a rare treat for her to be able to stay all day.
You can see what a mess we make while we are "playing"
Jackie is the one on the left.  She used to work for the Meijer grocery store chain as a cashier.
She mentioned that she was going out on Friday evening with her Meijer gal pals.
Last week Glenda had a Customer Appreciation Night and made these cute bags for everyone
using the Fancy Favor Box Die #115965 $39.95.

Since I helped her out by loaning her supplies for her large group,
she gifted me with one of the bags.

I told Jackie we should make some bags like that and make them look like grocery sacks and she could give them to the gals as a treat.  Jackie's response was "yeah, just make them up like that, huh?" and we said "YEAH!" We set everything aside and we all worked together to give Jackie a hand in creating a fun gift for her friends.
I printed out the Meijer logo from their website and we added that to the front of the bags
Jackie stamped "So Glad We're Friends" from the retired stamp set Best Yet to create the sign.

I think they turned out ADORABLE!!!
She texted me that night to let me know that the ladies thought they were GREAT!!

Teacher Appreciation Week

Wednesday, May 16, 2012
Last week was National Teacher Appreciation Week and at our grand children's elementary school they were suggesting for each student to bring a candy bar, etc and then write a note to correspond with that particular candy.
For example: Smarties could be...Thank you for making me smart(ies).
These are the cards that I made using Lynn Pratt's free appl
e pattern.
Since Gracie is in kindergarten she attends Monday, Wednesday and every other Friday so she brought her treat on Wednesday.  Julie chose Tic Tac and wrote "Thanks for making each day an enjoy-"mint"

Tyler brought his treats in on Friday.  For those I made extended length candy wrappers using the Candy Wrapper Die #120890 $32.95 Click HERE to view a video tutorial on You Tube.
Julie picked out Take 5 candy bars. In the card they wrote
"Take 5, you deserve a break.  Summer is almost here.
Thank you for everything you have done this year.

I love having little projects like this to stretch my imagination.
I'm sure the teachers loved them!

My Mother's Day!

Monday, May 14, 2012
What an amazing day!!

Our son Joey came and shared lunch with us today, but earlier this week they popped in to bring me a gift.  Melissa used to work at a Tanning Salon and got me hooked. It has given me such a boost to not be so pasty white skinned. I only go once a month, but will do a spray in between if I need a boost, so Melissa picked up some more iSun and an anti-aging lotion to use prior to tanning.  I love the thoughtfulness!

Jeff and Jess popped in with the beautiful flowers!
They smell so very lovely,
and the color is oh so pretty purple.

They also brought...

A copy of Jeff's newest book, just released.
It feels AMAZING just to hold it in my hands.

A personal signed copy!!! What an amazing talent God has gifted him with!

If you have an ipad, iphone or Kindle, etc you can click on this link
to download it, OR go to Amazon.com to purchase a hard (or soft) cover book.
There will be a permanent icon on the right side of my blog along with his other two
books if you need to access it in the future.

Julie brought me a stand for my ipad so now I can read Jeff's book it will free up my hands.
Yes, I have a physical copy and an E copy!! Perfect for this proud mama.

This is the card that I made for our daughter, Julie, for Mother's Day.
I saw it on the Stampin' Connection by Barb Mann and thought it was perfect
as Julie has one boy and one girl.  I do not have the stamp set FOREVER YOUNG (yet)
so I took my Timeless Portrait Designer Paper and fussy cut the silhouettes for
the front of the card.  I like it - it gives it a touch of color with the blue back ground.

MENU:
CS: Basic Black, Crumb Cake, Retired DSP or you could use First Edition DSP,
(I am just trying to use up some old DSP on hand), Timeless Portrait DSP
INK: none
Accessories: Eyelet Border Punch, Victoria Lace, Vintage Wallpaper EF, Dimensionals

I hope all you Mother's and Mother's-to-be had a wonderful day too!

Time to play with the Red Hot Stampers again!!
My friend, Rachel, is the one who chooses the sketches for us to do
and I was finding this one challenging because I didn't like the dead
space at the top of the card.
This is the sketch we had to work with...
So I went to work digging through my "lucky leftovers" of Designer Paper
to see if something caught my eye.
INSIDE:
I can't say it is my favorite but I was too lazy to start over.
All in all, I think it turned out pretty nice.

MENU:
SS: Apothecary Art, God's Blessings (retired), EnFrancais back ground
CS: Soft Suede, Very Vanilla, Pink Pirouette, Beau Chateau DSP
INK: Soft Suede, Versa Mark
Accessories: White EP, 1 1/2" and 1 3/4" Circle Punches, Dimensionals
