Sentimental Sunday

My sweet Daddy served our country in the Navy during WW11 and now on Memorial Day Weekend I wanted to honor him.

A while back he attended an Outdoorsman Venue and he visited a Veterans booth where he put his name in a drawing to win a FREE fishing excursion - something he has been wanting for a long time. After a couple weeks he received the call that said his name was drawn for a salmon fishing trip!  He was so excited and couldn't wait to tell me about it.  A week ago on a brisk, early, Saturday morning he joined some other Veterans for this fun fishing day.  I was at Mom's when he called and I got to hear the excitement in his voice when he told me that he just pulled in a BIG Salmon that took him 10-15 minutes to land.  That stubborn salmon ended up being 14.5 pounds!  (The largest salmon caught that day was 17 pounds.)

It was a great day for him as he was able to share this event with other Veterans and I am sure there were stories shared.  My Daddy was the oldest Veteran that day to join the fishing excursion so he was awarded an American Flag that flew over Michigan's Capital Building on April 4, 2014 (he even has the documented papers for it)

Today on this Memorial Day Weekend Sunday, this beautiful flag, that holds so much meaning, is hanging on a wall at my parents church.

I am so proud of my Daddy!  My dad was on the USS Harry F Bauer DM26, a destroyer Mine Layer which was used in mine sweeping operations.

Thank you Daddy for serving our country!  You make us proud!

Thanks for stopping by, and have a wonderful Memorial Day!
