Early last Spring I purchased these cool towers of bright colored tea lights

tea light towertea lights

for the purpose of making these tea light “suckers” for a craft sale

tealight sucker

I saw this cute idea on Dawn Griffiths blog – thanks Dawn! and she made them with a Christmasy theme, and with a different stamp, but I liked the variety of bright spring colors and thought how cute this would be for a bridal shower treat or for our ladies retreat. All we would need to do is add a Bible verse to the back. In fact, one lady bought several of these at the craft sale for that very reason. She was going to give them to her Bible study group at their last meeting.

Well, I had several left over tea lights so when Glenda demonstrated how we can use our Big Shot to cut out Aluminum Flashing, and she showed us this cute tea light flower made from the aluminum flashing and the Flower Folds Bigz Die

flower tea lights 4 flower tea lights flower tea lights 1 flower tea lights 2 flower tea lights 3

Glenda showed us how to "step it up" by embossing them using Stampin’ Ups! great embossing folders, put them together with my glue dots, added the colorful tea lights and WHEEEEE!! Another cool idea for the craft sales. Thanks Glenda for all your great ideas!! I’m a little preferential to the polka dot one. Which one do you like?

OK – there are a LOT of tea lights in these tubes and I still have some left over, BUT…I got to thinking what would I do with the empty tubes…can’t throw anything out – right!?

Recycle / Reuse

The more I looked at the tubes sitting there I thought how cute it would be if I filled them with candy like you see in the stores at Christmas time, but who wants to wait for Christmas to get candy? So I found some of my retired Halloween Designer Paper and wrapped the bottom to hide the label (that refused to cooperate) and some stickers leftover from a previous craft sale project

Recycle / Reuse,

and now I have a fun treat for my grandkids when they come trick or treating. I wonder if it will fit in their trick-or-treat bag? tehe

I used our new 2 3/8” Scallop Circle Punch and the 1 3/4” Circle Punch to back up my cute Halloween stickers, some Linen Thread and 5/8” Black grosgrain ribbon pulled it all together.

So For Now…

Happy Halloween!!'

Craft Sale Recap

Sunday, October 24, 2010
Yesterday's craft sale was...ok...notice I didn't use the capital letters "OK!", but 'ok' is still 'ok'. It was fun to talk with all the shoppers and to meet a lady who said she checks my blog EVERY DAY!! Yeah!! I feel so honored.

Another sweet treat was that my little Julia (you've seen her on a previous blog) came to see me when her Nana brought her to the craft sale (Julia's mom had a booth too). I love how she ran into my arms and had a big smile on her face.

One new item that I made for this craft sale was some gift card holder tins...You can see I made a few varieties...

The next craft sale that Sue and I will participate in is on November 20th at Hudsonville High School. The sale goes from 9 AM to 3 PM - but a bonus is that you can also watch the Santa Claus parade right outside the high school. Hudsonville is such a great city and I am proud to be a citizen of Hudsonville all my life!!

Hope to see you there!!

A Trio of Purses

Saturday, October 23, 2010
Many of us girls are either "shoe girls" or "purse girls". I would put myself in the "purse girl" category before I would say I'm a "shoe girl", but I got to admit I like them both. When I saw this card idea by Patty Bennett I knew I wanted to make it for the "purse girls" in my life.

Brayered Sunset

Friday, October 22, 2010
The last technique we learned was how to brayer a sunset onto your card. I think the ladies liked this one best of all.

They also did some heat embossing with the eagle and the Happy Birthday greeting, but those are techniques they had already learned at the many Stamp A Stack classes that they attend. Thanks Ladies!! I enjoyed your company!! Now go out and use these techniques to make your own great creations.

Wet Watercolor Technique

Thursday, October 21, 2010
The second technique we learned at this weeks technique class is called Wet Watercolor using the Wonder Crayons and this is the card that they made. I love this stamp set called Autumn
Days. It is perfect for those 'hard to make masculine cards'

By coloring directly on to your stamp with the Watercolor Wonder Crayons then misting your stamp before stamping on the cardstock. Option that we did here was to mist the paper instead of the the stamp. Keep in mind you must use a watercolor paper or one of Stampin' Ups! heavier papers like the Naturals Ivory shown here. The ladies also learned how to color the Texture plate before running it through the Big Shot to give the background (of the Chocolate Chip piece) a raised and more defined look. So I guess they got two techniques in one on this card.

MENU:
SS: Autumn Days, Teeny Tiny Wishes
CS: Cherry Cobbler, Chocolate Chip, More Mustard, Naturals Ivory
INK: Chocolate Chip, More Mustard
Accessories: Water Color Crayons, Sponge, Twill Tape

Stay tuned tomorrow to see the last technique we learned.

Tuesday Tasks #2

Wednesday, October 20, 2010
I started on cleaning my shed for the Tuesday Task this week. This is a bigger project than I realized so I can only give you some "before"

and "during" pictures

This is the unit I made to hold all the leftover lumber from projects that will be used for a future project.

A little sweeping up

Now these are guy toys!!

The "after" picture will have to wait until next week

One of Christi's 'to-do's' on my list was to dig out the climbing roses and get it ready to plant some Clematis next spring. Parker, one of the new day care kids this fall, thought helping Uncle Dale was fun. He took his job very seriously!

Although we both love roses, Christi was finding the thorns a bit too much since the trellis was right by where the kids play.

Charlie took his job seriously too...that being to check out the dirt plugs from my thatching/aerating job last Saturday - YUCK! This kid will eat anything

So while I'm slaving away, Christi's just a

lounging away

Actually I wouldn't want her job for any amount of money.

So tune in next week to see if I actually get that shed finished...

Faux Tile Technique

Last night we had our Techniques Class and learned three different techniques. This technique is called Faux Tile and really very simple by dividing your cardstock in 1 in squares, stamping your image and then using a marker to go over the lines without running the lines over your stamped image. This is the card the ladies made, and it will make a nice Thanksgiving greeting for a friend or loved one.

Here is another example of the same technique...

Hope you can join us sometime for a techniques class. Tune in tomorrow for the next techniques we did.

Sew…I hear it’s your Birthday!!

Monday, October 18, 2010

My oldest sister, Judy, was my 4-H instructor for nearly 10 years. She started teaching me when I was in the 3rd grade and we had to start by making an apron and hemming a towel. I can remember her frustration with me when I cut my dress out wrong and we had to work hard to fix it, but through the years she was patient with not just me, but many, many young girls desiring to learn the art of sewing. I even had our daughter take 3 years of lessons from her. After being honored for 25 years of service she decided to hang up her teachers hat, but I sure do appreciate all she taught me. When I found this card front at our combined Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators garage sale I knew I just had to get it. Since this set is retired I could not make one of my own so had to make this one my own by attaching the front to a card base and adding a birthday greeting and verse. Do you think she will like this verse from Genesis… ‘and they sewed fig leaves together…’ UM… how about… from Ecclesiastes… ‘For everything there is a season and a time for every matter under heaven…A time to tear and a time to sew’. Okay, I’m just having fun… Maybe I will go with (from Acts 14) an analogy of Lydia, the woman who loved the Lord and was a “seller of purple (cloth).” Thank you Sister for all you have taught me!!

13

Happy Birthday Judy!! I love you more and more each day!!
