Floating Frames Technique

Monday, July 22, 2019
I have been super intrigued with the FLOATING FRAMES TECHNIQUE that I have seen time and time again from other demonstrators, and wanted to give it a try, and it uses the super cool PRESS 'n SEAL saran style wrap that you use in your kitchen every day.
I chose the stamp set: HEALING HUGS because I absolutely adore the beautiful DistINKtive rose and leaf images.
We made this card at the June & July Card Clubs.
It might be a bit more involved than some other cards, but I did a LOT of prep work for the ladies ahead of time.
When you cut out the center rectangle using the STITCHED RECTANGLE DIES you end up with and image for a second card.
I ended up loving this second card the best!
Colors are Daffodil Delight and Calypso Coral with Mossy Meadow leaves.
#1. I stamped and cut the leaves and flowers on Whisper White card stock only to find that when you peel off the PRESS 'n SEAL it was taking some of the top layer of the stamped image with it. I researched a little and someone said to just make sure that your stamped image was totally dry. - NOT necessarily so because I let my stamped pieces rest for over a week and they were still peeling up. I even used the HEAT TOOL to set the ink.
#2. I was encouraged to use the THICK WHISPER WHITE Card Stock... a little better, but there was still some peeling.
#3. One of the gals had to leave early and left her PRESS 'n SEAL on over night. I was REALLY concerned that it would be a ton worse because of it sitting on there so long - not so much - She came back the next day to finish up and I was shocked at the minimal peeling that happened on her card.
#4 My next trial was to use SHIMMERY WHITE Card Stock. This time I chose a new stamp set and stamped it with MEMENTO Ink. I wasn't quite ready to commit to this card so I did not color it in until later and then I used the STAMPIN' BLENDS.
This time when I peeled off the PRESS 'n SEAL it came off CLEAN!!
So the moral of the story is to use Shimmery White Card Stock!!
Colors: Stampin' Blends in Flirty Flamingo Combo and Old Olive Combo.
What I wished I had done differently: I wish I had used a smaller rectangle, but I hadn't committed to a sentiment yet and I really didn't need that large of an opening. This was a great chance to add some stamped images inside the frame.
Here is the second card:
Now, I just LOVE this one! and if I had used a smaller rectangle I would not have gotten such a beautiful image for this card. So I guess using the larger rectangle was still the right choice!!
There are a TON of videos on YouTube AND there are even some videos on how to do the FLOATING FRAME TECHINIQUE without using the PRESS 'n SEAL wrap.
Just be aware that you will use a TON of Stampin' Dimensionals on your cards, but well worth it.
All of these cards are absolutely gorgeous and what I would call WOW! cards. You all should give it a try.
