Jack of ALL Trades!

Tuesday, July 30, 2013
You probably know that I love to brag on my hubby because I think he is the ABSOLUTE BEST!!  I tell people he is a Jack-of-all-trades, and master-of-most, but yesterday he outdid himself.
He flipped his time between making yummy cinnamon rolls with Gracie - all from scratch!  My mom's fabulous Cinnamon Roll Recipe!!

To working on the last of the basement kitchen cabinets with Tyler.

He taught Tyler how to use the saw and how to drill the holes for the cabinet
Look how far he got on the cabinets today...
He is equally at home in the kitchen as he is in a tool room.
And I am the blessed recipient of all his kindnesses!!  Thanks Babe! I love you!!
What did I do yesterday?  So happy you asked.
When Gracie wasn't working with Grampa in the kitchen she was in the craft room with me.
She insisted that Harry needed a collar like Henry's but Harry is quite the gentleman so he deserved a neck tie, and according to Gracie, Harry likes to play the piano.
Check out Henry, Harry and Tommy's new friend...His name is TOGO the Turtle.  Togo is a gift from our sweet friend Alex who spent a few weeks on a short term mission trip in Togo Africa.  She brought Togo the Turtle back for us as a thank you for supporting her trip.  Togo was made by some African ladies who sell small gifts like this at the school for the blind children there.
Gracie insisted that Togo loves to race...
Henry, on the other hand, thinks he is a super hero so we had to make a cape for him.
CARDS? oh yeah! I even had time to crack out a card to show you.

My day yesterday was the PERFECT BLEND!!! which is the name of the stamp set that I used on this card inspired by Sandi MacIver.  I even made the COFFEE PAPER so that my card even smells like coffee. Very Cool!  This set comes with 2 different word phrases, so I thought I would show you both of them.
Card Stock: Coastal Cabana, Whisper White, Basic Black, Designer Paper: Gingham Garden, Modern Medley

Happy 40th Birthday

Thursday, July 25, 2013
When I was only 16 years old my two oldest sisters gave birth to their babies only 4 days apart.  Marcy was my sister Vicky's oldest child and Kevin was my sister Judy's second child.  In fact Kevin was born on my dad's birthday and shares Grandpa's middle name.  Well, this year Kevin and Marcy turn 40 years old.  So hard to believe.  I remember taking them with me and carting them around like they were my own.  Kevin lived close by, but Marcy lived north and ended up moving farther away.  Now as adults I get to see Marcy all the time and Kevin has moved to California.  Oh, how time changes things.

In honor of their birthdays I am showing you a 40th birthday card inspired by Elizabeth Edwards, featuring my beloved owl punch.

Puppy Punch Art and a Yummy Recipe!

Wednesday, July 24, 2013
Last night was our PUNCH ART CLASS which is fast becoming a favorite for everyone.
When you sign up AND pay in advance OR place an order IN ADVANCE for any of my classes, I have a small gift for you.
At last nights PUNCH ART CLASS the ladies made 3 cute cards (see the original post HERE)
Their small gift for pre paying this class was a PUNCH ART PUPPY inspired by Diana Gibbs.
I put my PUNCH ART PUPPY on a card to give them an idea of how they could use it, but I am sure they will come up with a variety of cute cards or scrap book pages with this cute little pup.

4 months ago I started a Gluten Free, Dairy Free, Sugar Free Diet!  I can see this will be a lifetime change for me.  I feel so much better and my chronic cough has disappeared.  But what I crave is the SWEETS!! I was uber-careful with the sugars, but now that I am nearing my 6 month goal in only 4 months I am venturing to add natural sugars to my diet, like PURE Organic Cane Sugar, Sucanat (instead of brown sugar) and yesterday I tried PURE Organic Coconut Sugar in these YUMMY cookies:
I am not going to be stingy - so here is the recipe I found on line

ALMOND BUTTER OATMEAL COOKIES
1 C Natural Almond Butter
1/2 C + 1 T Coconut Sugar
1/4 C Applesauce
1 T ground Flax Seed
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla
2 tsp baking soda
Generous 3/4C Oatmeal

In a small dish combine applesauce and flax set aside
Preheat oven 350 degrees
If your Almond Butter is super hard, microwave it for a few seconds to get it soft and stirrable
In a small bowl combine Almond Butter, Coconut Sugar, Vanilla, Salt and Applesauce mixture.  Mix in the baking soda and oats.
Line a cookie sheet with Parchment Paper
Bake 350 for 8-9 min.  My oven took only 7 min. DO NOT OVER BAKE!
Yield: Using my Pampered Chef Cookie Scoop I got 17 cookies
I calculated the Weight Watcher Points because even eating good for you (better for you) foods you still need to eat in moderation.  So this recipe divided by 17 cookies I figured to be about 2.75 Weight Watcher Points.
ENJOY!!

Everything Eleanor and Phase 3

Tuesday, July 23, 2013
Sometimes it is nice to have a card that is both pretty and doesn't have a bunch of layers.  You know me, I love to have dimension on my cards but I also love the simplicity that Nance Leedy used in this layout.

Stamp Set: Everything Eleanor, Secret Garden, Something to Celebrate (retired)

PHASE 3 in the kitchen has begun and you can only imagine my excitement.

Minion Madness

Thursday, July 18, 2013
Tyler and Gracie begged to go see the movie DESPICABLE ME 2 when it first came out.  I was not quite sure about it since I had not seen the first one and all the commercials looked rather silly to me, but when my friend Rachel said her family loved it I knew I could trust her judgement so I gave in to their pleading to watch it.  I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it.
Here is Tyler and Gracie standing by the movie poster
And Tyler with his giant tub of popcorn - never saw a kid who loves his popcorn like Tyler does - Unless it is his Uncle Joey, that is.
I said to the kids that now I needed to make a punch art Minion card - so what did I see on Stampin' Connection the VERY NEXT DAY? A Minion card.  I followed the photo by Tanya Bell to make my Minion.  Not sure that I did it exactly like hers but I think he turned out rather cute.
I used my Stamp-a-ma-jig to line up the variety of birthday greetings then stamped a separate one in Pacific Point ink, cut it out and popped it up.  His shoes are made using the framelits from SECRET GARDEN.

Thanks for stopping by, and remember you can grab inspiration from ANYWHERE!! Even a kids movie!!

Project Share

Wednesday, July 17, 2013
Monday night was our monthly Red Hot Stamper meeting and the quarterly meeting where all my gals are invited to Glenda's.  Glenda said we could bring things to share with the group and if we did then we would get our name put in a drawing.
This is what I brought to share with the gals... it will be something that will end up on our Craft Sale tables this year.
It is made from an open end envelope.  OK, of course I snagged the idea from someone else. Thanks Janis Sinko for sharing this fun idea.  I had to figure out the pattern for the tie so then printed out a tie pattern for all the gals who attended the meeting.  Janis filled her shirt envelope with a candy bar (YUM!) but I thought this packet of Land O Lakes Hot Chocolate fit perfectly.

I also planned to share this cute and easy way to make a bow with punches or the Oval Framelits, but Glenda beat me to the punch by posting it before I could share it at the meeting.  I brought it with me anyway and now I will share it with you!

We will be using this cute bow on a future card for an upcoming Class.  I can hardly wait to get started.   Actually Glenda's IS different than  mine.  So this is what I did...
Cut out ovals using the Oval Framelits. I used #2 and #3 (counting up from the smallest)
On this bow I used the Square Lattice Embossing Folder to add texture

Fold each oval in half secure with a glue dot
 Then start building your bow
Layer the smaller oval on top of the larger oval
Add a button or embellishment of your choice.
Oh - and by the way - I won the door prize drawing!! Woot Woot!!

Punch Art Class

Tuesday, July 16, 2013
Next week Tuesday, July 23rd at 7pm, is the next PUNCH ART CLASS.  Here is a glimpse at the punch art cards that we will be making that night.

Punch art was inspired by:, Patty Bennett - Pizza card, Doris Denman - Baby Card, Andi Potler and Patti Lee - car card.
Last month we made a pregnant lady card so this month ist seemed appropriate to make a baby card.  The original punch art for the baby card came from Doris Denman.  My friend and fellow Red Hot Stamper Sara Hoogendoorn made a card using this punch art as well.  Check it out by clicking on Sara's name.
WHEN: Tuesday, July 23rd
TIME: 7PM
COST: $12.00
WHAT YOU GET: an 8x8 page with all the instructions for your future reference, and you will make one of each of the cards shown.
You must sign up for this class by Sunday, July 21st so I will have time to prepare.

Tyler is off to Summer Camp this week so it is just Gracie and Gramma.  Last week the kids and I stopped in to the Used To Be New Consignment Shop to reload the card rack and while I was busy the kids took a look around the store.  Gracie found a friend for Henry and we just HAD to buy a friend for Henry.  HARRY quickly has made a home here and Gracie had fun instituting him into our day.  He even helped while we prepared lunch.

Then when I was organizing and cleaning my craft room I spotted TOMMY my childhood doll so now Henry has 2 new friends.
Silly? YES! and I love it! The kids that their Gramma is a lot of fun!  Who am I to argue?
We've also been playing games each time they come...Tyler seems to be the overall winner so far.
DOMINOES...
MONOPOLY...

My basement kitchen now has it's newest cabinet...

He does GOOD work!! I couldn't wait to fill up all the drawers with my cake and candy decorating supplies as well as one drawer for games and 2 drawers for extra blankets and tablecloths.  I am gradually emptying out bins and totes and it feels so good to organize it all in the beautiful cabinets that Dale makes.  Stop in and see it for yourself!   It's GORGEOUS!!

Next project?  Looks like we are starting on cleaning and organizing Dales tool room.  Looks like I have a BIG day ahead of me helping him out so I better get off the computer and get to work.

Thanks for stopping by - and I will see you tomorrow for the COME STAMP WITH ME class!
