His and Hers Projects

Not only to I keep my days filled with card making, class preparing, and cake baking and decorating, my Hubby has been busy too.  Right now he is working on a project for me.  I call it my work station, so instead of standing by a 6 foot table he is making me something similar to a kitchen island. He started this project on his day off Monday and will keep working at it when he takes next week off work, just to catch up on stuff here.

It doesn't look like much yet but wait until he is done!! I can hardly wait.  It will be a great organizing tool as well. I will keep you all updated.
Here is another project that he has been working on...

These handy, dandy Heat Tool Holders are just perfect for hands off heat embossing.  All you need to do is hold your project under the Heat Tool to heat emboss.  We saw a sample of the one on the right on Jackie Bolhuis' blog quite a while back so he made one for me, then Stampin' Up! came out with the NEW style Heat tool and the NEW Heat Tool did not fit in the same holder sooooo..... Dale designed a new style to hold my NEW Heat Tool.  I love the NEW Heat Tool because it has two settings.  One setting is for if you just want to set your ink, and the other is for heat embossing.  It is also quieter than the original one.  If you would like a Heat Tool Holder for yourself, Dale is offering to make them for only $10.  If you need to have it shipped then the cost will be $  (US shipping only).

Cinderella's Ball Gown

Today's card bids a farewell to s few products:

Which one will I miss the most?
The Shimmer Paint!  I love it when I can make my cards sparkle.  It is hard to see in the photo but the recipient sure can enjoy the sparkle.

As a little girl I loved watching the story of Cinderella and in the animated version it is so cute how the little birds help to design her gown (that eventually gets torn apart by the wicked step-sisters).  Such a precious memory.  When we took the family to Disney in 2009 Gracie wore her Cinderella dress to our Breakfast with the Princesses.

Sonny & Cher??

 

When our Daughter, Julie, and our son, Jeff, were in high school they were both involved with the High School Choir, and they both participated in the small group called 20th Century.  Here they are, Julie is a Senior and Jeff a sophomore when they sang the Sonny and Cher song "I'VE GOT YOU BABE" at the Annual Music Revue Show.  As I sat in the audience (every night!!) I was shocked and thrilled that they actually had their arms around each other as the song ended.  Julie likes to brag that at one time she was actually taller than Jeff.  Sorry about the grainy-ness of the photo but it is all we could come up with.  Remember this was pre-digital era.  This past Friday night at the High School's Annual Revue Show they invited Revue Show Alumni to sing one song together to honor Mr Dean Nederveld who was their choir director.  He was my choir director as well and was my absolute favorite teacher and choir was my favorite class.

Let me indulge you in a story - When I was in 7th Grade I was in the band (saxophone) and HATED it! So in 8th Grade I joined the choir with Mr. Nederveld as my teacher.  The very first song he had us sing was "BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATERS" and at Friday's Revue Show the alumni sang "BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATERS." You can imagine my tears of joy, and remembrance.  It was also an amazing time to see Mr. Nederveld again.  I still love him dearly.

I was so proud when Julie and Jeff were involved in the choir and the Revue Shows - they were so much fun (wish they had those when I was in school)
Here they are together again.  I am one proud Mama.  I have been looking forward to this night ever since they graduated.

Happy Mother's Day!!

No Sketch Challenge for me today, I just wanted to share the card that I made for our amazing daughter, Julie.  I generated the words on my computer using WORD, added the strip of Designer Paper, and stamped the flower from the stamp set FABULOUS FLORETS. Colors are Old Olive and Elegant Eggplant on Naturals White Card Stock.
Julie treated us today to a very yummy homemade dinner.  We so appreciate her thoughtfulness.

Just Believe Braiding Card

This is the Technique Card that I showed the girls how to make.  I got the instructions for this braiding card from Brandy Cox.

Now this is definitely a WOW Factor card, but all the ladies will tell you how incredibly simple this really is.

Down Line Challenge

Tuesday I had a meeting with the wonderful gals of Christi's Creative Crew.  I appreciate these ladies so very much and I wanted to encourage and challenge them to step out of their comfort zone and hold a Personal Card Making Class (aka workshop) with some friends or family members.  So to give them an idea of what they could do at their class we made these three cards to show how you can "step up" from a simple, cute card to giving it the "WOW Factor."

Simply by adding a layer of black card stock and some textured embossing stepped it up one level.  In the final card we added a paper doily and some paper piercing.  Would the first card be good enough?  Absolutely!! but the idea is to show how you can change up your card and give it that "WOW Factor."  And now to give credit where credit is due I snagged this idea from Diane Vander Galien, thanks Diane!

When I was cutting out the Apothecary Framelits in preparation for the meeting I ended up with negative images like this...

So I challenged them again to come up with some ideas using these negative images.  They each took home 2 Basic Black and 1 Very Vanilla.  I can't wait until next month's meeting to see what they all come up with.
This is the first thing I used mine for...

I placed it on the inside of my card and sponged some Pool Party ink inside, giving my birthday greeting a little "something extra."  When I put my cards at the store to sell I like to put a sentiment inside and it can be difficult sometimes to come up with something new so they don't all say the same thing.  I pulled my KIND AND CARING THOUGHTS retired stamp set out for this cards sentiment.
