Just a quick post to show one of the cakes that I made recently.  The right side of the book cake will hold a photo of the birthday girl.  I guess this could also be a Sentimental Sunday post because the cake pan that I used for this cake has been retired from Wilton for many years, but the lady who inspired me and was my go-to person for questions gifted this pan (and many more) to me when her illness got too bad and she was no longer able to make cakes.  Now that she is gone I treasure her memory every time I use one of the cake pans that she gave me.  And there are many times I wish that I could still call her up or stop by her house to ask her some questions.

Pass Me A Napkin Please

I'm starting to be a napkin rescuer!  HUH?! Glenda had these cute napkins at one of our meetings so I saved one to make cards from it.  I can get 4 card fronts from one napkin!! How cool is that??!!

This is a perfect summery card to send to just about anyone.  Isn't it bright and cheery?  I teamed it up with the new Tangelo Twist Card Stock.
I guess I could call this a Fast Friday Post!!

Thankful Thursday

I am so very thankful for my sweet hubby who is so extremely talented.  If his name was Bob, I could call him Bob the Builder like the children's show that the kids in my day care used to like.  Little Charlie was his happiest when walking around with his play screw driver - so cute! And Dale is the same way - he is the happiest when he has a project, and boy has this been a doosie!
This past week he finished up on the flooring

 AMAZING!!

 Then we put Billy to work to pick up the dirt!

 Next came the trim work.  He decided that since this is such a large room he wanted to put up the wider trim around the slider

 As well as the floor molding

 A little chalk to seal it all up and give it a finished look - a trick he learned from the painters that did our upstairs when we moved in

 Even the "little" things like getting my clock back up on the wall was HUGE for me

More handy hooks and the photo frame with pictures of my parents and my sisters - very dear to my heart

 Before he went to work one morning he did a quick mopping on the floor because although Billy is good at picking up the dirt, with all the work going on down here the floor was still dusty.

I am thankful for my Father-in-law (now gone 9 years already) for instilling in my hubby - his youngest son - to be a help to his wife.  Dad was a great example of a devoted husband who never tired of helping Mom even before he was her care giver for 18 years after her first stroke.
I thought it was appropriate to share a Thank You note today for my Thankful Thursday post.  This is a card we made on Tuesday at my walk-in class.  I left the top right corner empty for the ladies so they could make it whatever they needed so I made mine a Thank You note using the beautiful sentiment from BLOOMING WITH KINDNESS stamp set teamed up with the STIPPLE BLOSSOM flowers

A Promise is a Promise

Last week I posted this BLENDED BLOOM (#135906 $11.95) that we made at our downline meeting.  I chose the Pumpkin Pie BLENDABILITIES because I wanted a challenge, and it really was a challenge.

Yesterday I decided I procrastinated long enough and I needed to work on my promise that I told you to check back to see what I would do with it.  Well, here you go...
I stamped the flower 3 more times, fussy cutting the layers and popping each layer up with a dimensional.  I also added some White gel pen lines which also helps it to "pop."

Now what to do with my Pumpkin Pie flower - I decided to combine it with the new BLACKBERRY BLISS card stock.  My cousin requested a card for a 60th birthday so I simply added the number 60 using the (retired) Typeset Dies. A little pearl in the center of the flower and three rhinestones on the "0" made it all come together.

Just one more time

Just one more time to move this monster of a DVD style shelf unit that we bought at a Blockbuster store when it went out of business.  We started with three units and have now scaled down to only one.

This unit holds all the retired stamp sets that I will keep (for now), but when new retirees come along I will have to start purging.  I refuse to have more shelving just to store old stamps (cry*)

Sentimental Sunday

Our daughter, Julie, who is the mommy to our two wonderful grandchildren, Tyler and Gracie, is graciously giving the crib and dresser that she used for the kids, to Jeff and Jessica for their new (soon to arrive) first born.  The dresser doubles as a changing table once they get the new pad to go on it.

Jeff and Jess have been working very hard remodeling the upstairs of their home so that they will have a nice master bedroom, 3/4 bath, a room for the baby and a nice walk in closet.  A few weeks ago they asked it I would be willing to house sit while the carpet guys came to install their new carpet.  YOU BET!

This is the picture that Jeff took, and posted on Facebook, of their new master bedroom finally completed.

What I love about their upstairs bedroom is that when you look out the window you can see their wonderful garden.  Jeff's Grandpa Waite would be so proud.

Over the winter months, Jeff made these great markers for the garden, carving the words and painting them. Now they can see at a glance what they planted and where!  Great job, Jeff!

And since Julie gave the dresser that Gracie was using to the new baby (because it matched the crib) she needed a dresser for Gracie so she decided to use an old dresser that was given to her (wish I would have taken a "before" picture) and asked if Grampa could fix it so the drawers were a bit safer and then if it could be painted.  Gracie chose pink, of course!  We found a color called Debutante in a chalk paint that went on so sweet!  He added new drawer glides so the drawers wouldn't fall out onto her little toes.

After waxing and sanding it looks pretty nice.  Now all it needs is some cool drawer pulls.

As of today there is only 18 more days until Jessica's due date!  I can hardly wait to hold our newest grand baby!!

Sweet Saturday

Last week Saturday, I shared with you that it was our grandson, Tyler's, 12th birthday so today I will show you the cake I made for him.  His cakes are always themed around what his current interest is so this year he chose the Hunger Games.  I have not read the book nor seen the movie so I had to rely on a sketch Julie made for me.

 Sharing a birthday celebration with Uncle Jeff usually means picture time.  Guessing it won't be too long before Tyler will be as tall as his uncle Jeff.
