Friday Family Fun

Last week Friday night we had a BEAT THE WINTER BLUES family night.  It was the perfect night for this because we had quite the winter storm that week.  Sadly, Joey and Melissa could not come because of the weather since they have to come from a further distance.
Our table was "Blue" themed

 Gracie ended up being the big winner for the night and won a bottle of BLUEberry Juice
And Little Sawyer slept right through all our noise.

The cute quote of the night was from Gracie:

"Hey, Gramma - you might want to take a picture of this..."

I am so thankful for family and I can't wait to do something like this again!

Sentimental Sunday

Our photos are back from the photographer from when we had our family photo shoot 2 weeks ago. Despite the rainy day she was able to capture our family well.  Upon her suggestion we decided on an apple orchard for our setting.  So sit back and relax and enjoy a few of our favorites on this Sentimental Sunday

Keeping it simple again

I thought I would share with you all the cards that the other Red Hot Stampers made for our Keeping It Simple Challenge

Sue made this cute Bugs and Kisses card – I love all her bright color choices.

Glenda made her card while on her trip out to convention so had limited resources. I really love how she used the Circle Circus stamp set and the bright colors. She used the stampin’ spots that come in a new demonstrators starter kit to show you can get started right away. This card by Lori uses the stamp set Always and a standard size wheel. She added ribbon – we teased her about breaking the rules.

Dawn made this cute baby card for a friend who is having a baby girl soon and already has a little boy. I just love the Family stamp set, you can do so many fun things with it.

Rachel has been going crazy using the new Aviary stamp set. She loves it because she has several birds at their house as pets. Once again the bright colors really set it off.

I’m really impressed by one of our new gals, Sarah. She made her card using the Inspired by Nature stamp set, and then she thinks like me and “stepped it up”adding the Perfect Plum card stock behind it. She didn’t even stop there… She made another “stepped up” version by adding butterflies from the stamp set Flight of the Butterfly…cute so very cute.

Mother/Daughter/Sister Weekend

Have you missed me the past couple days? Well, I have been enjoying a special weekend with my three sisters and our mother. We have tried to get together for a weekend each fall as two of my sisters live farther away and we don’t always get a chance to be all together without the pull of grandchildren, in-laws etc. This year we chose to stay here in Grand Rapids and enjoy the local sights. Here is a picture of us four sisters in 1957. (I am the littlest one)

Last year we enjoyed the beauty of Dorr County, Wisconsin and this is a photo of us last year all together. I am in the back with my mom and my sister, Lynette, from Iowa. In front is my oldest sister, Judy, who lives here and my sister Vicky who lives in the Upper Penninsula.

And here we are this year. This picture was taken right near the Gerald Ford Museum. The poor guy we roped into taking our picture was having quite the time with my camera, but he had a great attitude about it all, and we had a good laugh. We are so blessed that our 81 year old mother still has the spunk and energy to be with us. Of course, we are all grandmas and not quite as energetic as we were several years ago when we started this tradition, but there is something about all of us being together that puts a spring in our step and a giggle on our lips. What fun we have when we are all together!! It is something we look forward to all year.

Some of the fun things we did this year was to see the musical “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” at the Grand Rapids Civic Theatre. Here we are on the steps at the Civic.

We enjoyed walking through the streets of Grand Rapids and seeing all the ARTPRIZE exhibits. Here is one of the famous Lochness Monster and the Table and Chairs that seemed to be the most popular exhibits. I have some thougths on the whole ARTPRIZE thing that I think I will post on our Waiteestate blog. Keep checking the side bar and you can click right on over to that site so see what I am talking about.

And here we all are in the Giant Button. Don't we look like a pack of prairie dogs poking our heads out? Since we are all seamstresses we thought it was appropriate. We also visited the Gerald Ford Museum. Here we are standing with "Jerry"

On Friday we walked the quaint streets and shops of Rockford, (yes, in the rain) and, of course, everyone knows that when you go to Rockford it is a MUST to eat lunch at Arnies

Of course the "Cake Lady" had to sample the much advertised Filled Cupcakes and I just kept saying... "I could do that".

This is the little gift I made for each of them. The little Top Note Purse holds one small box of the Russell Stover chocolate candy. They liked them so well that my sister Vicky ordered 12 of them to give as gifts...and I wasn't even trying to advertise.

We rounded out our evening when our Dad joined us for lunch on Saturday and then we went to see the movie "Julie and Julia" at night - What a fun movie. And laugh - we laughed through the whole thing. Judy had to leave early so now she and I are going to have to go see it together - it was quite a sister bonding time!!!

Hope your weekend was as fun as mine - and if you have a sister I hope you love and appreciate her like I do mine.
