Weekly Challenge

Monday, May 18, 2020
Last weeks weekly team challenge was to make a card (or project) using a stamp set that they bought, but haven't used yet.
I'm sure we are not the only ones who buy a stamp set, and then there it sits, not getting any use.
This is the card that I shared with them.
Of course I have used the BACK ON YOUR FEET Stamp Set a lot, but I have never used my SWIRLY FRAMES Stamp Set so I thought that I would pair the two together.
I had to use the "mirror image" technique to make the giraffes face in opposite direction.
Here are the cards that my team came up with...
Lynda used a Hostess Exclusive Stamp Set from a couple years ago called Very Vintage. She teamed it up with the HANDWRITTEN back ground stamp. She is wondering why she hasn't used this stamp  set before. Handwritten Background stamp is on the retiring list so get it now before it is too late.
Next was Barb - she has been wanting to play with her BLOOM & GROW Stamp Set and decided to make 2 of them.

Carla made this next card using BLOSSOMING BASKET. She cannot believe she hasn't used this pretty set yet.
Brenda made this next card using TREEHOUSE ADVENTURE. She thinks that with 5 grandsons she will be using it a lot more.
Anna made this pretty card using COLORFUL SEASON, what a nice spring-feel card. She said that she likes the brown and pink color combo - me too!
Bonnie made her card using the WINDS OF CHANGE Stamp Set. She used
Seaside Spray ink with Watercolor Pencils.
Janell's card takes 3 photos to give it justice.
Take a look at this fun fold that doubles as a gift card holder

Rachel is a NEW TO US Demonstrator who re-signed up in March
FREE AS A BIRD is a fun stamp set for her because she
has two little birdies at home named Sundae and Sherbet.
She makes in bulk because she sends a lot of encouraging cards
Debbie A. used BIKE RIDE Stamp Set - a perfect set for Spring/Summer
I've actually been on my bike a few times this Spring, but I am a
fair-weather-friend and I pick and choose my days to enjoy being outside.
Debbie has done a great job selling her cards on line too.
Karen used MOUNTAIN AIR and said that she would have used this set earlier, but she had to purchase the larger clear block I. So if you are loving this set as much as I do                                    you will want to add Clear Block I to your order.
This is Juli's first time to participate in our weekly challenge so this is extra special
She actually had to place an order from her hospital bed and
now that she is recovering she is able to participate
Such a fun-fold card. She used the Garden Lane Designer Paper
and POSITIVE THOUGHTS Stamp Set

This next one is from Inez
Inez used the MY MEADOW Stamp Set that we received free when we went to the
ONSTAGE event last November. It has a lot of little pieces, but the result is wonderful.
The card is from Jodie - I remember this elephant stamp set, but never purchased it, and I cannot remember the name of the set - but nice job, Jodie!
I love this cute card that Susan sent for our challenge using the DINO DAYS Stamp Set

Vicki sent in our last card for the week using SWEET STORYBOOK. She said that she used this set once before, and now wishes she had purchased the designer paper that coordinated with it.  Let this be a lesson - get what you want NOW before it is too late.

Want To Take A Bicycle Ride?

Thursday, June 28, 2018
When I was a little girl my favorite toys were ones that had a lot of pieces to them, and I think that is why when a stamp and die set has a lot of pieces, it really does not intimidate me. The BIKE RIDE stamp set has all you need to design your very own bicycle, and pairing it with the BUILD A BIKE FRAMELITS makes it super easy to make this darling card (that was inspired by Lisa Curcio).
I would love to have a cute, pink bike like this one with a basket for Lucy to take a ride in, but my bike is a purple one that I bought at the second hand store, and since I am not terrible steady on it, I sure would hate to put a lot of money into a new one. (I've already fallen once from it)
I get occasional requests for a bicycle themed card so this is perfect!
The areas that look like a light gray are stamped with Memento Ink and stamped off once. I love the look it gives.
The "Happy Birthday" is from the single stamp STYLIZED BIRTHDAY (retired)

Embossing Paste Samples and Tips

Friday, October 13, 2017
Yesterday I featured 3 cards and the upcoming Stampin' Blends Markers. You can see that post HERE in cased you missed it.
Two of those cards also featured the Embossing Paste so I thought maybe I would expand on that amazing product today.
Here is a new card I made last night featuring the EMBOSSING PASTE
Check out this close up and how glittery it is - ok this photo doesn't show off how sparkly it really is.
Here are the 2 cards from yesterday
Yesterday's BIKE RIDE card was on a Pink Pirouette base - which one do you like better? the Pink from yesterday or the Soft Sky from today??
Had to make a yellow front door because that's what we have!!
You may have noticed that on both of the cards from yesterday I used the brick pattern from the PATTERN PARTY DECORATIVE MASKS  - it really is my favorite, but I also love the puffy clouds stencil used on this card (inspired by Patty Bennett)

See the stencil in the top right corner? It is very reminiscent of the EASTERN MEDALLIONS, but it is super big - big enough to fit a card front.
So I wanted to share with you some tips that I have learned along the way
1. The bicycle card shows that you can color the EMBOSSING PASTE using the CLASSIC STAMPIN' INK REFILLS. I love to put a little Embossing Paste on my SILICONE CRAFT SHEET and add the Ink Refill of my choice. I mash it around like I am coloring frosting for a cake.
2. It dries really fast, but if you are super impatient you can use your HEAT TOOL for a few seconds. Drying it with the Heat Tool will also puff it up a bit. Seriously - it really does dry fast
3. The Night of Navy card, I sprinkled it with DAZZLING DIAMONDS GLITTER before it dried.
4. You can make your own mask using whatever cut out you want.  I used 3 of the nesting dies from EASTERN MEDALLIONS THINLITS DIES. So you can see that I could fit a variety on the front of my card instead of just one.
5. Instead of adding Glitter, try adding EMBOSSING POWDER and Heat set it with the HEAT TOOL.
6. You do NOT need to use a mask when using the embossing paste. You can use the EMBOSSING PASTE as snow on the Christmas Trees. Try using a small paint brush to add the embossing paste to the edges of your trees. For example: the tree dies in the CAROLS OF CHRISTMAS Stamp Set/Bundle with CARD FRONT BUILDERS DIES
7. One thing I learned by trial and error is this...
I assumed that I could scrape off the unused portion into the container but the EMBOSSING PASTE that stayed at the top edge of the container got all hard and unusable. Be sure to scrape off but then get the paste down into the center of the container.
8. You will want to get the PALETTE KNIVES for only $5.00 for spreading the paste.
A quick note: the little jar is 4 oz. Sold by Weight not by volume so when you get your EMBOSSING PASTE your jar will appear as though it is not full, but believe me it is still 4 oz.
9. Because of how quickly the Embossing Paste dries you will want to keep a little tray with water handy for cleaning off your stencil, palette knives, etc.
 * another side note: I was making the pink brick wall later in the evening so I just popped my stencil, silicone mat and palette knife in the water and waited until morning to clean.  NOT! best to clean them up right away, and warm water is a key. You can even add a drop of dish soap. Yes, they cleaned up fine but they did have a residue left on my stencil and silicone mat.
10. Last but not least - Try adding some embossing paste with a stencil onto some Designer Series Paper - oh yeah! and select Designer Papers are on sale!! WOOT! WOOT! Check out the details below.
The Designer Series Paper sale is on through the end of October.  Don't miss out on this great deal!
