My guest stamper for today is Debbie A

Debbie made up some cute bags using Stampin' Up!'s fabulous designer paper and inside she tucked a variety of cards.

She had also gotten a special order from a friend for a graduation card. Loving these, and anything to do with music is always a hit.

                              

On the vacation front: Day 4 on the island: On Thursday we went to tour the Frederica Fort right here on St. Simons Island. This fort was built to protect the Southern boundary of the British Colony in Georgia from the Spanish Raids. It wasn't inhabited for a long time (1736-1748) About 630 British troops were stationed at this fort. The village fell into decline and by 1755 it was mostly abandoned. then in 1758 there was a fire that wiped out most of every building that was made of wood.

These two pictures are right off the marsh/coast where fighting took place. 

And this is what is left of the barracks for the soldiers

Interesting fact is that both Charles and John Wesley preached at the storehouses that were built 3 stories high. They stored supplies of food and clothing in these two storehouses but the third level was called the chapel where the Wesley brothers preached.

What you see on the base/floor is crushed oyster shells. They did a ton with oyster shells, building walls etc - they called it Tabby.

Our trip to the islands have been fun, and one of the things we loved was the sea turtle hospital on Jekyll Island and we kept hoping to see a turtle other than behind glass. Especially since this is nesting season and here are turtle crossing signs all over. Of all places - here at the fort - we see this turtle walking about so decide to watch. 

She seemed like she was looking for a spot to lay her eggs because she seemed restless. I've never seen a turtle walk so fast.  Finally, after digging in several spots, she found a soft enough place to dig right outside what would have been a doorway to one of the homes from years past. We watched as she dug the hole, and then proceeded to lay her eggs (although we could not actually see the eggs because her shell was in the way), but we knew what she was doing by her actions. Then she proceeded to cover up the eggs and tamping the dirt down with her back "legs" then brushing the leaves back over top. By the time she was done you couldn't tell that the spot had been disturbed. By this time there was a small group of people who stuck around to watch her too. The ranger was alerted and then they put up some tape to mark off the area with a sign - "Do Not Disturb - Terrapin Nest." (Terrapin is any turtle). Our turtle yesterday was a diamond back. She lives in the marsh/brackish water, (neither fresh water of salt water), so when the baby turtles are hatched they will have a very long way to get back to the marsh. It takes about 60 days to hatch.

We were glad that we stuck around to watch Ms Turtle because just as we were leaving they had a ranger giving a "tour" about Juneteenth and the African Americans that lived and were buried there.

Musical Birthday Cards

My Daughter-in-law is a violin teacher and she asked if I would be will ing o make birthday cards for her students again this year
OF COURSE!!
Music Theme, of course!
This is when I am thankful for friends who keep older stamp sets, and also who let me borrow.
The stamp set that I used is called MUSIC MEDLEY. Stampin' Up! introduced this stamp set in the year 2000.  I wasn't even stamping at that time!😀
Now to come up with a layout - I searched on Pinterest for a layout design that would work and made this card my own.

For the inside I pulled out my retired SASSY SALUTATIONS stamp set.
Why am I showing this card that uses retired product?
Because I want to show you that you can use any card idea as a layout design. Change up the image and the sentiments. Add some embellishments or ribbon.  The Stampin' Up! Catalogs are some of your best resources for card designs.

Special Request

Another special request for a Thank You Note.

Inspired by Pinterest I used the retired Four Feathers stamp set along with the DOTTY ANGLES and  TEENY TINY WISHES.  I ran out of the music note Designer Paper but...I had some music note wrapping paper on hand and it came in very handy for this card.  The feathers are embossed with GOLD EMBOSSING POWDER and it is wrapped with GOLD BAKERS TWINE.

A Family Christmas

We celebrated Christmas with the kids and grand kids on Friday night.  Along with the store bought gifts we gave each of them I also made a set of cards for each of the girls

And for Melissa who will often wear animal print fabrics...

The purses were made using the instructions from Frenchie.  But to get exactly what I wanted for the girls I used printed glimmer paper purchased from a local craft store.

We had a delicious meal with everyone pitching in - even Henry helped me make the potatoes

How do you like the bib I made for him using the Scallop Circle Die and the Typeset Alphabet Bigz Dies.  Didn't want Henry to get all messy working in the kitchen.  Henry thought he would play a little hide and seek....look where I found him...taking a ride in the Lazy Susan!

Joey and Melissa had a power outage so they came early to make their yummy chicken and pasta salad.

 Jessica is doing her final touches on the vegetables and it sure seemed nice to be able to walk out of the kitchen and let the kids do their thing.

Just a Note

My 13 year old Niece, Dria (Alexandria), recently spent time at the Word Of Life Camp in New York where she participated in the Teens Involved Competition.  Dria is quite the piano player and wanted to give it a try even though she knew she would be one of the youngest ones in her age category.  We were thrilled to see when they posted on Face Book that Dria had taken second place!!  We are so proud of her!  I have had this card idea sitting around by Elizabeth Sanders and I figured NOW was the perfect time to make it up and send to Dria congratulating her on her good job.

Once again I loved it so much I wanted to make more.

Our sweet daughter in law, Jessica, plays the piano and 

I asked her if she would like some note cards like these 

to have on hand to send out, and "SURE!!" 

So... I made more...

(this is only 1/2 of them)

 

I think I will be using some of these for thank you notes for Talent Night this year!

They are a great way to use up those pesky small scrap pieces of card stock

that you accumulate because you don't have the heart to throw anything out.

You can bet I will be making more of these!!

The Sentiment was computer generated and punched with the 

Decorative Label Punch $16.95 #120907

Piano keys were punched with the 

Word Window Punch $15.95 #119857

and I used some of my retired

Real Red 5/8" Grosgrain Ribbon to tie around.  

I think the 5/8" Satin Ribbon would be pretty too,

but thought it best to use up the retired stuff first.

Featured Demonstration

Last night was our Down Line meeting at Glenda's with the Red Hot Stampers. 
I agreed to share with the ladies what I learned from Patty Bennett's blog on how
to turn your Stampin' Wheels into a Clear Mount Stamp. 
Since then I have seen several demonstrators show this technique,
so it may not have been new to every one, but I enjoyed showing them
how I did it and what I made.
I have liked the designs on several of the Builder Wheels, but never felt the NEED to buy
them just because they were something new out, but when I saw how you can take the
wheels and make them a stamp I was all for it.
The Builder Wheels are those two small ones you see in this photo

I cut the crayon one off and then mounted it on the Clear-Mount Cling Foam that you can find on page 7 of the NEW Catalog #124236 only $10.95 and you get two sheets that are 8.5 x 11.  You NEED to use the Craft and Rubber Scissors with this as it is VERY sticky.  The Craft and Rubber Scissors can be found on page180.  They are a little bit pricier but WELL WORTH it!! #103179 $19.95.  On this crayon one I was then able to use a variety of marker colors to make a rainbow of crayons instead of only one color when used as a wheel.  In fact, I started down my line of markers starting with the Subtles Collection, and inked a crayon, capped it, put it back in it's spot, pulled out the next one and so on and so on.  When I was done I just huffed on it and stamped it - and look what a nice image it made.  I still want to put this piece to good use on a card someday but it looks so cute in my Clear Mount Case.  Which, by the way, you can also purchase for yourself to store your new Clear Mount Stamps that you make from your wheels.  You can find them on page #7, #119105 you get 4 cases for only $5.95.  I use mine for storing my Framelits, Basic Rhinestones and Pearls, extra markers fit perfectly in them, and I use them as well for craft sale projects which you will be seeing more of those coming up soon too.

 

You can see I have been digging into my foam just a bit.  Remember a little

goes a long way so this is an inexpensive way to make your wheels into a stamp.

One of the first wheels I had in mind to mount was the Music Notes Wheel.

As you can see here when I would use it as a wheel I would always get

a break in the note pattern where the seam on the wheel was.

So by cutting off the rubber from the wheel right at that seam, and using an 

Exacto Knife I laid it on the Clear-Mount Cling Foam and then cut it out.  

I could then trim nice and tight around the edges that would sometimes catch 

and now I get a nice crisp clean image with no breaks and no side smears.

Right here you can see I took a wheel called Bright Blessing (sorry -

newly retired) and it has a bunch of words going all which-ways on it.

I cut out one of the phrases, mounted it, and now have a great new

Thanksgiving word stamp.

May Cakes

Time to share with you the cakes that I made this month.
The first one was for a dear young friend Amber who just graduated
from Hope College with her nursing degree.
I used to take care of her little guy, Eli.

 And this one was for Lisa.  I get to make her cake every year because her thoughtful husband makes sure that in their household of boys, the only girl in the family is MOM and that she gets treated very special on her birthday.
 

Next on the line up for May was a Wedding Cake!

This was a two layer 14" and a 2 layer 12" Carrot Cake
Thankfully, my husband helped me to deliver it because it weighed
28 1/2 POUNDS
I got an email from the bride two days later that said it was a BIG hit
with everyone and she gave my name out to several people who asked.

Some Princess Cupcakes for a 7 year old charge of one of my friends

The fun little topper is a bottle of Princess Bubbles.

  A total of 40 cupcakes for her fun Princess Party! 

 The first Graduation of the season...

Heidi is headed to Cedarville College in Ohio and has 

a scholarship to sing with their traveling group.

 Hence the music related decorations on this second cake.

There are more birthday's and graduations coming in June, so stay tuned
