Paper Pumpkin Night

Tonight is Paper Pumpkin Night! A fun (free) night of stamping with the gals who subscribe to the monthly Paper Pumpkin kit.

Merry Christmas!

Joy, Joy, for Christ is born, the babe the Son of Mary! ~ What Child is This?
We sang this song at church earlier this month and it just struck me that so many do not personally know this Jesus who grew to be our Saviour!
We celebrate Jesus' birthday today! I pray that you, too, are celebrating the Reason for the Season!

I pulled out my favorite Christmas stamp set called FIRST CHRISTMAS. 

I love it because Christmas is all about baby Jesus!

Christmas Treat Tubes

This coming Saturday, November 18th is the last Craft Sale scheduled for this year.  I am so thankful for my friends who are filling my spot and taking my Craft Sale items along and selling them for me. I am also thankful that I was able to stay at my sisters house last weekend while Dale and Carla did the Craft Sale at the Fremont Middle School. Lucy had a fun couple days staying at her puppy friend, Lily's, house while we were gone.
I had some Treat Tubes filled up with Mini M&M's and Sixlet Candies that needed to be decorated to sell.

This first style I cannot remember where I got my dimensions from, but I do know that I had to play around with it to make it just the way I wanted it.  The Designer Paper is from the (retired) Pop Of Pink Designer Series Paper Pack. That pack had only one sheet of each of these embossed designs making it a heavier paper, perfect for this project. I ran out of the gold foil small doilies so I made some Gold swirls with the small swirl from the SWIRLY SCRIBBLES Thinlits Dies. The one on the right I chose to use another (retired) Stamp Set called First Christmas. It's always been one of my favorite Christmas Stamp Sets.

Then I wanted to make a different design so that they weren't all the same. Typically Santa themed treats haven't sold as well as the Faith Based Themes, but I thought I would give it a try. They were Inspired by Angie Leach on Pinterest.
My other sister will be here again this week and she will be in charge of my care for this coming Saturday, but I hope you will come on out to the Hudsonville High School, 5037 32nd Ave. Hudsonville to check out the booth that Sue and Carla are sharing. It will be a larger booth this year so hopefully less congested when shopping and paying for your items. Maybe my sister will get me out and we can walk around the craft sale.
Just a heads up - our booth is in the cafeteria and the craft sale starts at 9am and a Holiday Parade starts at 10am right in front of the school, so plan accordingly.

M&M Christmas

Assembly Line style is the way to go when you are making projects for the Craft Sales.  Here I did all my stamping and embossing at the same time.  I embossed Baby Jesus with the retired Early Espresso Embossing Powder, and the star in Gold Embossing Powder.

 I found the cute little jars in the wedding section of Michaels and I filled them with M&M's.  Then I printed out the M&M Christmas Poem for the inside.

M&M Christmas Poem

As you hold these candies in your hand

And turn them, you will see

The ‘M’ becomes a ‘W’,

An ‘E’, and then a ‘3’.

They tell the Christmas story~

I’m sure it’s one you know.

It took place in a stable

A long, long time ago.

The ‘E’ is for the East,

Where the star shone so bright.

The ‘M’ is for the Manger,

Where the Baby Jesus slept at night.

The 3’’ is for the Wisemen,

Bearing gifts, with which they came.

‘W’is for Worship,

Hallelujah! Praise His Name!

So as you eat these candies

Or share them with a friend,

Away in a Manger

These are the cards that I made for our Minister of Fine Arts and Worship to give to all the choir members.

Now, I have a funny story to tell you...

Many years ago our church purchased brand new hymnals.  Shortly after that the wife of our Assistant Pastor, at that time, came up to me with a hymnal in her hand and said "perhaps you would like to purchase this hymnal from the church."  I was quite dumb-founded, but not for long - Our Joey about 7 years old had written on the book binding "Joey was here and so was Jeff, Julie and Mom and Dad." Oh, how hard I laughed! I wanted to take a picture to show you, but over the years (20 years ago) the writing has worn down - but I still own that hymnal!!  And that is what I used to make this Christmas card for the choir members.  I photocopied the song, minimized it to fit my card front then started tearing, sponging and then stamped the Babe in a Manger from the retired stamp set FIRST CHRISTMAS in Versa Mark and heat embossed it with Black Embossing Powder.  The star was stamped with Versa Mark and heat embossed with Gold Embossing Powder.  There were a few steps to this - but I only needed to make 50 of them!! :)

(Inspired by Mary Ann Wood) I'm happy with the way they turned out.

Gum Holders

 Why have a boring pack of gum in your purse when you can carry one

of these fun Holiday themed creations?!

I had a few of the Mentos UP2 gum and made them a Halloween theme

using the tags from the  Ghoulish Googlies Designer Kit in the Holiday Mini

#126914 $7.95

but what I really love is how these Christmas themed ones turned out.

The COME TO BETHLEHEM (left) was stamped with StazOn ink

so I didn't have to worry about the ink smearing when I did the sponging,

but on the FIRST CHRISTMAS (right) I wanted to have the baby Jesus in 

a warm Chocolate Chip color.  The words are in Midnight Muse and I knew that

both of those would smear, so thankfully I had the new style ink pads that

 allow you to heat emboss as long as you do it quickly.

I stamped both the creche and the words then put clear embossing powder on 

both and heat embossed it and it went perfectly fine.  

The star was stamped with Versa Mark and heat embossed with 

gold embossing powder.  

A simple 1 1/4" circle punched out of a post it note stuck over 

the stars while I sponged created the lovely moon glow.

A little Basic Rhinestone in the center of the stars give it the extra "bling" effect!

For this weeks sketch challenge I channeled my inner "Sara".  Sara is my fellow Red Hot Stamper and the best sponger, shader, I ever met.

When I saw this sketch we had to work with...

I immediately thought of some sort of shading.  

I also thought the large circle area would be a great sun or moon.  

Now what to do with these ideas...

I decided to make it a moon which illumines the SON!! 

 I love Christmas,

but more than that I love the Christ of Christmas!!

And to me this depicts the Reason for the Season!!

For my shading I used a variety of blues: Bashful Blue, Baja Breeze, 

Not Quite Navy and Night of Navy.

For the Moon I used So Saffron, Daffodil Delight and a

Winter Hand Care

What is the first thing you think about when you think about  

Winter?

Well, if you live in Michigan like me, your thoughts will veer

towards beautiful, cold, blustery, snowy days and nights.

Along with that you get... dry, cracking, chapped hands - OUCH!

The little snowman band from the SNOW MUCH FUN stamp set

is around a lovely smooth hand lotion in a pale blue color.

So now what is the first thing you think about when you think of 

Christmas?  

Well, for me, it is the CHRIST in Christmas that makes the Season 

worth celebrating! The pretty green is a hand scrub. 

Thanks to my gal pal Rachel who helped me band these and get them 

ready for the craft sales.  Thankfully Rachel likes to color so she 

colored in all of the cute little snowmen!  Thanks Rachel!!

Time for another Sketch Challenge!!

This is what we had to work with...

I had just received my latest Stampin' Up! shipment and had all my new 

stamps so I thought it would be a great chance to use one of the NEW

stamp sets.  I also decided to turn this sketch because when I first saw

it I thought the little circle it looked like a moon to me.

This is my take on it, using my VERY FAVORITE new stamp set from

 the Holiday Catalog called FIRST CHRISTMAS
