One of our friends from church submitted these amazing western photos. He titled them THE PRICE OF FREEDOM. I would love to tell you that he won one of the prizes, but he did not, even though we thought he was very worthy.
It was quite fun to walk around the city and then be able to see his work.
As we continued our walk I decided to give you my own version of ART PRIZE
The artist? GOD - He alone is the very best creator of all things
Want to see who was the Grand Prize Winner? This is no surprise to me because this quilted wall hanging was totally amazing in person. It is titled NORTHWOOD AWAKENING and it is the second year that Ann Loveless won the public vote grand prize for a large quilt picturing a serene Lake Michigan shoreline. (she won the Grand Prize in 2013) YES IT IS A QUILT. The trees stand out as if they are 3D and you can't help wanting to reach out to touch it.
These are my two nephews who are standing in front of the 3rd prize winner in the 2 Dimensional Category.
This also does not surprise me. The artist really captured every little detail of these amazing tigers.
2 years ago this same artist won 2nd place for paintings of polar bears
this next one was my favorite sculpture and it was a $12,500 winner
And although this next one did not win any prize, I have seen more people post pictures taken by it than any other. Yup, that is my nephew, Ben, again
We certainly did not get to see all 1,550 submissions, but we sure did enjoy a day out, just the two of us, and we are thankful for a city that cares about the arts.
Thanks for stopping by!
Christi
